Living in Nashville

Make the most of home

What’s on this week, free things to do, the outdoors, family days, game days and the city services every local should know about.

  • City services

    Call 311 or use hubNashville

hubNashville is Metro’s one place for non-emergency requests: potholes, missed trash or recycling pickups, streetlights out, noise complaints and more.

Call 311 (or 615-862-5000 from outside Davidson County), or file online and track the request until it’s fixed. For emergencies, always call 911.

  • Library card

    Free for Davidson County residents

Bring a photo ID and proof of your address to any Nashville Public Library branch. The card covers books, e-books and audiobooks, streaming, classes and events.

The main library downtown hosts free puppet shows for kids and a beautiful reading room.

  • Pro teams

    Titans, Predators, Nashville SC

Football (Titans) runs September to January, hockey (Predators) October to April, and soccer (Nashville SC) late February to the fall. In summer, there’s Triple-A baseball with the Nashville Sounds.

The outdoors

Get outside

Nashville has more green space than people expect, most of it free.

Percy and Edwin Warner Parks together are one of the largest city parks in the country, with trails, horse trails and scenic drives.

    Warner Parks

Percy and Edwin Warner Parks together are one of the largest city parks in the country, with trails, horse trails and scenic drives.

Climb the stone steps at the Belle Meade Boulevard entrance, or drive the loop roads for fall color. The nature center has free programs.

  • Percy Priest Lake

Boating, paddleboarding and lakeside trails on the east side, including Long Hunter State Park.

  • Harpeth River

Rent a kayak or canoe from a local outfitter for an easy float west of town, near Harpeth River State Park.

  • Beaman Park

Wooded hollows and creeks in the northwest corner of the county, great for a quiet hike.

  • Radnor Lake

A protected natural area with easy trails around the lake and lots of turtles, deer and owls. No bikes; dogs only on some trails.

Local know-how

The city, sorted

The services and accounts that make life here easier.

  • hubNashville (311)

Report a pothole, a missed trash pickup or a streetlight out. Call 311 or file it online and track the fix.

  • Nashville Public Library

Free card for Davidson County residents: books, streaming, free classes and events at branches across town.

  • Metro Parks & greenways

    Severe weather

Spring and fall can bring tornado warnings. Turn on emergency alerts on your phone and know your safe spot at home.

Outdoor warning sirens are tested regularly, but they’re meant for people outside. Phone alerts and a weather radio are the reliable way to be warned indoors.

Your safe spot is the lowest floor, in an interior room without windows.

  • Getting around

WeGo buses connect neighborhoods to downtown, and the WeGo Star commuter train runs from Lebanon on weekdays.

  • Trash & recycling

Check your curbside pickup day and what goes in the recycling cart on Metro’s site.
